Cooking Up: Choc-O-Delight/Sliced Banana Surprise/Crunchy Vanilla Cream
The third graders reinforced their understanding of reading of fractions with measuring cups and spoons. It was quite a delight watching them read a recipe, follow directions and measure out the right amount. Since I didn't not assist them, but merely observed, it was up to the group to make sure their tasty dessert was good enough to eat. I took a few pictures, enjoy watching the slideshow below.

They all took their secret delicious recipe home, so hopefully you start getting more help in the kitchen!

Novel Study- Freckle Juice

While reading the novel, Freckle Juice, the third graders made their own concoction of Freckle Juice using items in their kitchen. They were extremely creative with their ingredients. At school,  the students observed and smelled each mixture and voted on The Smelliest, the Best Smelling, Worst Looking, and Most Creative Ingredients.

Silent Reading
Everyday the students find a cozy spot in the classroom to read independently for 20 minutes. It is a favorite time of the day for most students because they get to "dive" into a good book and explore a variety of different genres in the classroom library.
